Charpentier: Te Deum in D, H146
Handel: Zadok the Priest
JS Bach: Magnificat in D, HWV243
A programme of festive choral music from the Baroque for choir and orchestra including trumpets and drums. Charpentier’s magnificently ceremonial Te Deum is on of the great masterpieces of french Baroque music though rarely performed these days. Handel’s grandly regal Coronation Anthem is, by contrast, probably the most popular and frequently performed choral work ever written, while the Magnificat by JS Bach, is his most brilliant and flamboyantly jubilant masterpiece for choir.
