DeepBlue and The Queensland Choir have come together to develop an exciting and interactive new work. Our Place is an exploration of connection to place in contemporary Australia. Australians have always expressed a connection to place – from the Indigenous connection to country to the Australian dream of owning our own piece of suburbia, and the continuing evolution towards apartment living in big cities.

In particular we are exploring the evolving connection from the early days of Kelvin Grove through to the international suburb that it is today, including its indigenous history and ongoing connection to country, immigration, the impact of the two world wars, the changing nature of the neighbourhood, loss of green space and the development of urban villages.

Additionally, DeepBlue are working with acclaimed didgeridoo player and electronic musician  Tjupurru and Digi Youth Arts to work with indigenous young dancers, musicians and artists.

As well as a collaboration between our organisations, DeepBlue are also working with students of QUT’s Creative Industries to develop environmental and wearable tangible media which will enrich the performance with lighting and visuals which both audience and performers interact with.
